Kevin TOMKINS is for those who don’t already know it the man behind SUTCLIFFE JUGEND. This ex-member of WHITEHOUSE, is also a part of BODYCHOKE. SUTCLIFFE JUGEND is a veteran in power noise; I would even say a reference. His end-nineties rebirth through CD on labels Susan Lawly & Freek, as well as the recent re-releasing on CD of old material by Cold Spring, bring his works back to availability. Moreover Cold Meat Industry is anounced to release his next CD! BODYCHOKE his other project has released 2 CD “Mindshaft” & “Five prostitutes” on Freek Rec. This trio project guitar oriented, is in the best vein of typical english underground guitar project such as Splintered or Terminal Cheese Cake, but with their own sound. As you’ll surely heard of these both bands very soon, an interview seems necessary to present you such a implicated man. |

| What kind of aim is in a project like SUTCLIFFE JUGEND? To fufill a need in me to create incredibly violent music. Who are the members of your both projects? SUTCLIFFE JUGEND is just me, although I have had people in to help me on some tracks. BODYCHOKE are as listed on the “Five prostitutes” CD: Kevin Tomkins Guitar/vocals, Gary Kean Bass, Paul Taylor Guitar/vocals, but now with “Manu” on Drums. What has decided you to choose FREEK Rec.? The S.J. album on Freek records was a one off. We have released CD’s also on Susan Lawly & Cold Spring. The Cold Spring CD is “We spit on their graves” & is a selection from the original box set. Our next CD of new music will come out on Cold Meat Industry, and I’m working on that now. Are you fascinated in the Yorkshire Ripper? It is a tragedy that he was caught before his work was finished. Can you tell us more about your experience with WHITEHOUSE? I joined WHITEHOUSE for their first USA tour in spring 1983 and left after the spanish shows in 1985. I was involved in “The right to kill” & “Great white death”. Can you comment the different photos of the Death Mask CD? The new material on the “Death Mask” was all related to the “Fred West” case. The picture on the front is of Fred West as a child & the picture on the back and in the centre are of the “cellar” in their house in Cromwell street. The picture on the back of the booklet is of Fred & Rose West. Are there any chance to see a live performance of one of your both projects? BODYCHOKE have been recording a new album & will now start playing concerts again. S.J. will gig in the right circumstances. What are your future plans? As I mentioned I have just started to work on the new S.J. album. We just have to finish mixing the BODYCHOKE album, we are very pleased with the way its sounding. The new S.J. album should sound quite different to previous albums. I’ve been trying out some new ideas, it should surprise a few people. I’m also working on an album of Dark Avant Garde/Classical music which should be finished soon. Where are the bonus tracks of DEATH MASK taken from? The first track “Whores of death” is previously unreleased. The last track “King Ian” is taken from the video “Studio Aktion” on Susan Lawly & the second track is from “campaign/Pleasure corpse. The rest are from “We spit on their graves” 10 x 1 hour box set. What has decided you to form a guitar oriented project such as BODYCHOKE? It was the right vehicule to perform the kind of material we wanted to do. It deals more with the mental aspects of sexual violence rather than the purely physical . It’s not so clear out. We felt the kind of music we do in BODYCHOKE is a better vehicule for that subject. A promising future written with victim’s blood! |

| The Yorkshire Ripper has striken at the end of the 70ies the english region made by Manchester, Preston, Halifax, Huddersfield, Bradford & Leeds. Usually victims were attacked in the back, clubed with a hammer, raped, disembowelled, eviscerated, & finally beaten to the point of unrecognisation. The whole began in 1975 with 3 aggressions of women striken with a hammer: the first was half naked & killer was on the way to rip her as he had to take to flight by passer-by, Second one was lacerated with a cutter, especially the butt area; the third Wilma McCann a prostitute of Chapeltown had been clubed with a hammer & violently stabbed. She was the first of the 13s victims of the “Yorkshire Ripper”. The 20th of november 1975 another prostitue Joan Harrison is found skull shattered & ripped. January 1976 Emily Jackson, 24th April 1977 Patricia Alkinson both prostitutes ended in the same way. The 26th of June 1977 was a 16 years old student. The ripper even challenged the police by sending magnetic tapes. 300 detectives questioned 194771 persons, controlled 152000 vehicules, wrote 24693 reports, for nothing! His last victim Jacqueline Hill a 20 years old student, is killed on monday the 17th of november 1980 despite the ripper had annouced to the police he would kill that night & that they couldn’t do anything about it. Friday the 2nd of january a man coming with Olivia Rievers a prostitute is controlled by the police in his car a red Rover. The policemen asked him to follow them to the office. He accepted. In fact his name was PETER SUTCLIFFE, he was a 30 years old delivery man, living in Bradford, married but with no child. His name is on a list, he had been heard 3 times already in this case, but always released. He’s smiling, a good employee, a perfect husband & irreproachable; when he would have been once again released, the policeman asked to examinate his car; after an hesitation he accepts. The police would find the hammer & the knife under his seat. He finally bended down & sighed “Yes, It’s me.” |
